Tiki King's Ukulele Database:
Stroviols
Made in England, Circa 1900's. likely the very first "amplified" Ukulele. Designed by August Stroh, as an aid to recording. using the same sort of technology in use on record players of the time, the Stroviols Ukulele Had no hollow body to resonate the sound, but rather a sort of diaphragm coming off the bridge connected to a horn. Stroviols instruments included Ukuleles, Violins, Mandolins, Violas, Cellos, and guitars.
Instruments were first manufactured by son Charles Stroh until about 1924, and until about 1942 by George Evans & Co.
